Core with an A1S pearl cover for length and a defined move off the end of the pattern. The Equinox Solid put an A2S solid cover on that same core for early traction on heavier oil. Bowlers kept asking for the piece in between, and that is exactly what the Storm Equinox Hybrid is.

Storm calls this the most balanced Equinox to date, and the build backs it up. The same tri-cylindrical Solarion A.I. Core sits under the second generation of Storm’s Adhesion System, A2S Hybrid Reactive, finished at Power Edge. The solid and pearl components of that cover work together: enough traction to read the oil without burning up, then the clean, recognizable Storm shape at the back. The Nebula, Flare and Void color combination is one of the better looking balls Storm has released, and the Orange Creamsicle fragrance is the finishing touch.

Understanding the Storm Solarion AI Core and Storm A2S Hybrid Reactive

The Equinox Hybrid is a high performance asymmetric built for medium to heavy oil. The Solarion A.I. Core measures RG 2.48 with a .054 differential and a .018 PSA at 15 lb, so it revs up early and flares hard, and its tri-cylindrical shape changes the ball’s dynamic properties as it travels down the lane. That is what keeps it from over-skidding while still holding energy for the finish. The A2S Hybrid cover at a Power Edge finish handles the front part of the equation: it grips the oil without checking up too soon. The numbers by weight are listed below.

The Tri-Cylindrical Asymmetric That Changes As It Travels

The Solarion A.I. Core is the same weight block that drove both previous Equinox releases, and it is the reason the line reacts the way it does. At 15 lb it measures a 2.48 RG with a .054 differential and a .018 PSA, numbers that put it firmly in the strong, high flare category. It revs early, it flares hard, and it gives you a defined transition rather than a gradual arc.

What separates it from a conventional asymmetric is the tri-cylindrical shape. The A2S Hybrid Reactive cover is the piece that makes this the most balanced ball in the family. A2S is the second version of Storm’s patented Adhesion System, and it pushes oil absorption rates to the limit while creating a tackier than normal feel on the lane surface. In hybrid form, the solid and pearl components split the work: the solid side supplies traction in the oil, the pearl side keeps the ball from checking up early and preserves the backend.

Out of the box it runs Storm’s Power Edge finish. That is a polished look with real bite underneath, which is why the Equinox Hybrid reads the midlane without the abrupt shape a dull solid gives you on the same core.
