Description
About the Black Venom
The Motiv Black Venom is a bold, asymmetric upgrade to the already popular Venom line. Where the benchmark Venoms use a symmetric Gear core, the Black Venom steps up to the asymmetric Gear APG Core for a more defined, continuous shape, all while staying controllable on dry to medium oil. Like all of Motiv’s high-performance equipment, it is made in the U.S.A.
The Black Venom pairs that asymmetric Gear APG Core with Motiv’s Leverage MFS Solid Reactive coverstock at a 4000-grit finish. The asymmetric core adds a defined breakpoint to the trusted Venom motion, while the clean 4000-grit cover keeps the read controllable, a step up in shape from the symmetric Venoms without giving up control.
Understanding the Motiv Gear APG Core and Motiv Leverage MFS Solid Reactive
Motiv built the Black Venom to bring asymmetric shape to the Venom line. Specifically, the asymmetric Gear APG Core has a moderate differential and a defined intermediate differential, so it adds a more pronounced, continuous breakpoint to the smooth Venom motion, while the Leverage cover at a 4000-grit finish keeps the read clean and controllable. As a result, it gives you more defined shape than the symmetric Venoms on dry to medium oil. The per-weight specifications are listed below.
The Asymmetric Evolution of the Benchmark Gear Core
At the heart of the Black Venom is the asymmetric Gear APG Core, the asymmetric evolution of the benchmark Gear weight block. At 15 lb it measures RG 2.47, a .036 differential, and a .013 intermediate differential, numbers that produce a controllable motion with a defined, asymmetric breakpoint. The asymmetric design adds shape and continuation that the symmetric Gear core does not.
That defined-but-controllable shape is what separates the Black Venom from the standard Venoms. The asymmetric core gives you a more pronounced move at the breakpoint while keeping the moderate flare that makes it easy to control. Because it is asymmetric, layout has a strong influence on the reaction, so your pro shop can tune the pin and intermediate differential to your game.
A Clean Reactive Cover for a Controllable Read
The Black Venom wraps that core in Motiv’s Leverage MFS Solid Reactive coverstock at a 4000-grit finish. The clean 4000-grit surface keeps the read controllable and even, so the ball gets down dry to medium lanes and makes a defined move at the breakpoint without over-reacting.
That controllable read paired with the asymmetric Gear APG core is what gives the Black Venom its appeal: more shape than a benchmark Venom, but still easy to manage. Leave it at the 4000-grit box finish for its intended clean read, or adjust the surface at your pro shop for an earlier or longer reaction.
